Designing

A quick design done last week, thinking about the diner sign, along with a little design for either the side of the seats, above the I or the top of the sign...

Hong Kong

After my trip to Hong Kong last month, I thought that some of the pictures I took there had a good feeling when it came to portraying advertising, and an oppressive modern city.

Milan 1957

Next city/design movement exhibited, now getting into brighter colours, more plastics and more practical household objects as opposed to chairs and whatnot...

Brionvega - An italian company that produces home electronics, still in their 50's esque style, another of my favorite pieces at the exhibit was the record player below...

Angelo Mangiarotti - Another smaller design, this time a desk clock. The most interesting part of this for me was the design of the numbers on the clock, two lines increasing in size as you go around the clock. Theres some awesome other designs in the link above as well.

Bruno Munari - This ashtray was pretty slick, loved the texture as well, brushed steel look. Really simple design but works well...

L.A. 1941

My personal favorite part of the exhibit, along with being quite relevant, another series of artists/pieces that stood out...

Elliot Noyes - Designed the IBM selcetric typewriter, which in person has a far more impressive shape and form than this picture...

Eero Saarinem - Has a iconic style, alot of his designs are still in production today.

Isamu Noguchi - This table was exhibited at the museum, I think the way its balancing on itself is interesting, and could be applied to aspects of our project.

Corradino D'Ascanio - Another iconic design, this time the Vespa scooter, designed around 1946, he went on to shape and mold the scooter into what we see today.

Vienna 1908/Dessau 1928

After Mondays trip to the Design Museum in London, I compiled a bunch of stuff from one of the city design exhibits, sketches will be posted with the ones from the War Museum later, along with seperate posts for the different movements exhibited(L.A., Milan etc.)

Christopher Dresser-nice teapots/coffee pots that could be applied to the diner...

Adolf Loos - An American designer, the design for the Chicago Tribune Building especially caught my eye...

Joef Hoffmann - A series of really nice, sharp designs, link over his name contains lots of other designs...

William Wagenfeld - This Bauhaus lamp is paticularly cool, theres alot of other bauhaus work linked above.(granted, its to buy replicas of work, but the designs are there...)
